How do I set up Linksys Wi-Fi extender as an access point? extender.linksys.com
Access Point mode is available on
newer Linksys range extenders. In
Access Point mode, your range extender extends your Wi-Fi by connecting to your
router or switching through a cable, resulting in minimum performance loss or
connection dropout. Select Access Point mode for improved Wi-Fi speeds. This
post will demonstrate how to use your Linksys extender as an Access Point.
In Access Point mode, you can use the following Linksys range extenders: extender.linksys.com

Before
you begin the setup procedure, double-check the following:
·
A Wi-Fi connection that is operational.
·
Your Wi-Fi password/security key, as well as the name of
your Wi-Fi network.
·
A long enough Ethernet cable to connect your router and range
extender.
Follow
the instructions below when you're ready.
NOTE: A Linksys RE7350 was used in the example below.
STEP 1:
Connect
a power outlet to your range extender. Wait for the light to turn orange and
then turn off.
STEP 2:
Connect
your router to your range extender through an ethernet wire. You may need to
wait for the signal to turn green before moving on to the next step, depending
on the type of your range extender.
STEP 3:
Connect
to the range extender's default SSID, which is Linksys Extender Setup – xxx,
with a wireless PC or mobile device.
NOTE: The xxx stands for the final three characters of the MAC address of your
range extender, which can be found on the device's rear label.
STEP 4:
Open
a browser and type extender.linksys.com
into the address bar. If your range extender's IP address isn't included in
your router's DHCP client table, you'll need to search it up.
STEP 5:
Select
As a wired range extender (Access point) and then click next.
NOTE: If you haven't connected your range extender to your router or switch
with an ethernet cable, it will advise you to do so and try again. Before
moving on to the next step, make sure it's linked.
STEP 6:
Create
distinct Wi-Fi names for the range extender to transmit; you may use two
separate Wi-Fi names or the same one for both the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio
bands. Additionally, make a Wi-Fi password, and then click next.
QUICK TIP: The Wi-Fi network
that your range extender will broadcast is known as the expanded network.
Step 7:
Click
Save after creating an admin passes code for your range extender. You may also
include a clue for the password.
Step 8:
You may be asked to register your Linksys device in order to get updates and other information that will help you get the most out of it. Click Next, or Skip, after entering your email address.
Your
range extender is now configured as an access point.
The
top right header of your range extender will show Dual Band Wireless Access
Point once it is in Access Point mode.
Using the Linksys WAP750AC as an access point
The
Linksys WAP750AC AC750 Wireless Access
Point may be configured in one of two ways: as an access point (AP) or as a
range extender. Select Access Point mode
for faster Wi-Fi speeds. This post will walk you through the process of
setting it up to function in AP mode.
STEP 1:
Connect
a power outlet to the Linksys WAP750AC.
NOTE:
The Light Emitting Diode (LED) should become amber before proceeding.
STEP 2:
Connect the router's Ethernet wire to the Linksys WAP750AC and wait for the LED to become green. This signifies that the router has provided it with an Internet Protocol (IP) address.
NOTE: If the Linksys WAP750AC is not
connected to an Ethernet connection at the time of setup, the setup wizard will
inform you that the access point was not detected. Before continuing with the
setup, make sure you have an Ethernet wire connected and that the LED is solid
green.
STEP 3:
Connect
a wireless computer or a mobile device to the Linksys WAP750AC's default SSID,
which is Linksys AP Setup – xxx, once the Linksys WAP750AC has received an IP
address from your router. To begin the setup procedure, you must be connected
to this wireless network.
QUICK TIP: The final three (3) characters of the MAC address of the access point
are xxx. The MAC address of your access point may be found on the device's rear
label.
STEP 4:
To
begin the configuration, open a web browser and type
"http://ap.linksys.com" or "192.168.1.1" in the Address
bar.
STEP 5:
Start
the setup process by clicking Start Setup.
STEP 6:
Make
a password for yourself and confirm it. You can also add a password hint to
make it easier to remember your passcode in the future. Save the file.
STEP 7:
Click
Next after selecting the as a wired
range extender (Access point) option.
QUICK TIP: To broaden the selections, click the blue drop down arrow.
NOTE: If you haven't connected an Ethernet wire from your Linksys WAP750AC to a
router or switch at this point, it will remind you to do so before continuing.
STEP 8:
Once
you've finished creating the extended network SSIDs and passwords for your
access point, click next. This is the name of the wireless network to which
your devices will join.
NOTE: If you wish to use Wired Equivalent Protocol (WEP) to set up your access
point's network, you'll have to manually configure your Linksys WAP750AC since
the security mode only gives WPA2/WPA Mixed Mode and WPA2 (preferred) as
possibilities.
You
should now be able to use your Linksys WAP750AC wireless router.
QUICK TIP: To log in using your browser, you have three (3) options:
·
In the Address bar, type linksys.com.
·
In the Address bar, type the IP address of the Linksys
WAP750AC.
NOTE: If you haven't set your Linksys WAP750AC yet, its default IP address is
192.168.1.1. After you've configured your Linksys WAP750AC, you'll need to
search up the IP address in your router's DHCP table.
For
Windows users, type "http://WAP750AC-xxx"; for Mac® users, type
"http://WAP750AC-xxx.local," where xxx is the final three (3)
characters of the Linksys WAP750AC's MAC address.
The
top header will read Dual Band Wireless Access Point when the Linksys WAP750AC
is in Access Point mode. After you've completed the setup, go to the web-based
setup page to see the new top header name.
The
Linksys WAP750AC may also be set to function in Range Extender mode.
